This blog will be detailing the medals and the men behind the medals, all will have served the colours with the Manchester Regiment, predominantly during the Great War.
Each medal has its own story - that of the soldier that earned it, in that respect each is unique.
Millions of medals we awarded for service during World War One and they earned their own nicknames.
The trio (1914 or 1914-15 Star, British War Medal & Victory Medal) awarded to those that served prior to December 31st 1915 became known as Pip, Squeakand Wilfred, whilst Mutt and Jeff were awarded those awarded the British War & Victory medals.
Clearly, other medals were awarded in addition to the trio or pair, Miitary Crosses, Military Medals etc... as and when I am able to obtain such groups they will added to the blog (I live in hope !)
